Before you begin creating your hierarchy it's important to consider some best practices. You are able to create the hierarchy any way you'd wish, but Steelcase recommends you build it in a way that makes sense to you and your organization. A general rule of thumb would be to start at the highest level of your hierarchy and work your way down to the individual rooms. An example of how that might look would be:
Country > City > Building > Floor > Wing > Room
Consider grouping devices by geographical locations as this will allow you to more easily configure specific settings on these devices.
When managing your RoomWizard devices it's important to first build out your device hierarchy. This helps you quickly locate the specific device or devices you are looking to configure.
The hierarchy is made up of two different objects, spaces and rooms. Think of spaces as things like locations, buildings and floors. Rooms are the lowest level in the hierarchy and are what your individual RoomWizards are linked to.
In order to start building your hierarchy login to the Steelcase IoT Admin Portal and click on Global Settings > Location hierarchy
Here, you will start building out your hierarchy at the highest level. This could be something like a geographical location or building. To create your first space click "Create Space."
Enter your space name and click create space. You will now see this space within your location hierarchy. You can continue to add more spaces at this same level or you can add children spaces by clicking the gear icon to the right of any space and selecting "Add Space." This will then nest the new space underneath a space you have already created.
In order for RoomWizard to read and write to a room's calendar it must be set up as a room resource within your calendaring tenant.
For instructions on how to do this for Office 365 please visit this link:
To create a room click the gear icon to the right of any space and selecting "Add Room."
Enter your room name as well as the email address of the room resource. An email address is required in order to create a room.
If two rooms share the same name it will be hard to differentiate them if assigning a device through Setup Wizard.
The room name is what is displayed on the device's front panel
It is important to enter the correct email address as this will create the connection between your calendaring system and the RoomWizard Device.
Once you have created your hierarchy of spaces and rooms you can begin to assign RoomWizard devices. Each RoomWizard is assigned to a single room in your hierarchy. This creates a connection between the device and your calendaring system.
Note: Steelcase recommends assigning a device to a space during the physical installation of the RoomWizard. When the device first boots up Setup Wizard will allow you to do this. For more information see this guide: Setup Wizard.
By default, all of your RoomWizard devices will show up underneath "Unlinked Devices" in your hierarchy. The "Unlinked Devices" space can not be deleted as it will be used in the future if you add more RoomWizard devices to your tenant.
To assign a device, click the gear icon to the right of any room and select "Add Device."
The list of devices will be pre-populated with any that have not already been assigned to a room.
To find a specific RoomWizard you can filter all of your devices based on MAC address.
You are able to assign more than one device to a room in the case a room has multiple entrances with a RoomWizard at each. To do so make sure you highlight all of the devices you would like to assign to the room before continuing.
Once you have selected the device click on Assign Device to connect it to your room. You can repeat this step as necessary to build out your hierarchy.
It is also possible to assign devices simply by dragging and dropping the device onto the room you wish to link it to.
The Steelcase IoT Admin Portal also allows you to import your hierarchy from a CSV file formatted in the following way:
