How does RoomWizard receive power and network?
Like the previous RoomWizard, the new device receives both power and network via a Power over Ethernet connection. The specific PoE specification the device is compliant with is 802.3 at Type 2 PoE+.
If I already have previous generation RoomWizards installed am I able to add the new RoomWizard to the same environment?
Yes, since both devices leverage your existing calendaring system they will work seamlessly together. You will still be able to book both devices from the same places as before (Outlook, the Steelcase Find mobile app, etc.)
How does RoomWizard connect to my calendaring system?
RoomWizard leverages Steelcase's cloud-based platform to seamlessly connect the devices to your calendaring system. An Azure microservice is used to grant a RoomWizard read and write access to your room's calendars.
Which calendaring systems does RoomWizard work with?
RoomWizard integrates with Microsoft Office 365. Google Calendar integration is coming soon!
How do I mount RoomWizard?
RoomWizard uses a custom mount to attach to your surface of choice. The current supported mounting materials are:
- Hard surfaces (Drywall, Wood etc.)
- Privacy wall
- Post and Beam
- Single gang junction boxes
You can also retrofit the new RoomWizard wall mount to existing RoomWizard universal or V.I.A. hardware.
What is the architecture that RoomWizard is built on?
RoomWizard uses a cloud-based system built on Microsoft Azure. The application on the device is android-based for optimal performance and the device manager is built in partnership with Software AG, a leading device management developer. See diagram below. Can I customize the device? Can I add a logo?
Yes, the device can be customized with a logo, background color and/or background image. For instructions on how to customize this see: RoomWizard Background Customization
How do I keep my RoomWizards up-to-date?
RoomWizard can be easily updated remotely through the Steelcase IoT Admin Portal. These updates can be sent to one or many devices at once.
How do I manage my devices?
All management of RoomWizard devices is done through our cloud-based device manager. It can be accessed through any web browser.
Does RoomWizard visually show availability from a distance?
Yes, RoomWizard uses innovative edge LED lighting to show green and red signaling of availability. It is easy to see from a distance so that a user does not have to walk up to a room to see availability.
Can I release rooms from a reservation if no one shows up?
RoomWizard can be configured to display a check-in button at the start of each meeting. If the meeting organizer does not check-in within 15 minutes the room will be released. RoomWizard can also be paired with Steelcase Workplace Advisor Subscription which uses sensors to detect room occupancy. If a room is reserved but not occupied our system of sensors can free up the room to be used by others, which would turn the RoomWizard device from red to green.
Can RoomWizard be booked via a mobile device?
Yes, RoomWizard can be booked using the Steelcase Find mobile app. It can also be booked via the calendar client (I.e. Outlook) on a mobile phone.
Can I automate room reservations?
Yes, using two features of Steelcase Workplace Advisor Subscription, Auto-book and Auto-release, you can fully automate the room reservation process for your employees. When an employee walks into an available space the system of sensors will create a reservation on the room's calendar on-behalf of the employee. If an employee were to reserve a space but not use it, the sensors would automatically release the reservation so the space can be used by other employees. All of these features seamlessly integrate with RoomWizard to create a streamlined user experience.
What operating system is on the device and how does it get updated?
RoomWizard runs on a custom version of Android OS that can be updated Over-the-Air via the Steelcase IoT Admin Portal.
How is the system updated?
RoomWizard can be easily updated through the Steelcase IoT Admin Portal. We are committed to release updates on at least a quarterly basis, with security patches released more frequently. All updates happen in the background and the device is kept up to date automatically.
What information do the devices store locally?
The RoomWizard devices will persist any custom logo or custom background image provided by the customer. The device also holds up to 24 hours worth of calendar information in volatile memory.
If a device loses power or is restarted, all event information is lost and will have to be re-synced once the device regains a network connection.
What are the maximum number of devices that can be on one network?
There are no limitations on the number of RoomWizard devices that can be on one network.
